A Tongan man was shot and killed in the United States last week while two other men were injured and taken to a hospital.
The deceased was identified as 20-year-old William Fifita, who recently returned from a 2-year church mission in Guatemala.
Fifita, who is a member of the Mormon Church, was returning home from a church even in Torrance, Los Angeles, when another vehicle pulled up to his car and opened fire in what police described as a “senseless murder.” Fifita was struck in his upper body and pronounced dead on the scene.
The shooting took place after 2am in the intersection of Crenshaw Boulevard and Rosecrans Avenue in Gardena, a location bordering the city of Hawthorne, not far from Los Angeles International Airport.
Family and friends are mourning the death of Fifita, described by his uncle as “a good boy”. He was a student and football player at Mt. San Antonio College.
