Viliami Pousima Afeaki

A former Member of Parliament, and one of Tonga’s most talented orators and broadcaster died of heart complications at McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah on 24 March.

Family and friends know Viliami Pousima Afeaki, 66, as a very kind man whose commitment to King and Country was only secondary to his strong faith in God.

A People’s Representative from 1987 to 1993, Afeaki is remembered for his powerful and persuasive debates in Parliament, and known for his advocacy for his Ha’apai constituency.

Afeaki is the 7th of 11 children of the late Soakimi Pousima Afeaki and Lisia Fatongiahe’a Vea. His father was a lawyer and Member of Parliament for Ha’apai for many years.

Afeaki is survived by his beloved wife, Henilieta Suliana Wolfgram, and five children, with 25 grandchildren.

With three children from previous relationships, Afeaki had 12 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Henilieta had a son, Daniel Humphrey, who has 6 children, and 1 grandchild.

Altogether, Afeaki was father to 9 children, grandfather to 43, and great grandfather to 4 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held this weekend in Utah.
